What does a domain-to-IP lookup show?

DNS maps a human-readable domain to network addresses. This lookup checks IPv4 and IPv6 records and can also show nameservers, mail exchangers, aliases, and text records when they are published.

A returned address may belong to a CDN, reverse proxy, or load balancer. It should not be treated as a guaranteed origin-server address. Learn more in the lookup methodology.

How to read the results

An A record holds an IPv4 address and an AAAA record holds an IPv6 address. A domain can publish several of each, and they may appear in a different order each time because many DNS providers rotate answers to spread traffic between servers.

Nameserver (NS), mail exchanger (MX), alias (CNAME), and text (TXT) records are shown when the domain publishes them. A missing optional record is normal and does not mean the lookup failed. A lookup succeeds when at least one public IPv4 or IPv6 address is returned.

Every address is checked against private, loopback, link-local, and cloud-metadata ranges before it is displayed. DNS answers can differ over time and between resolver locations, so run the check again later if a result looks surprising.
